Fine Print: Things You Should Know
- ATTENDANCE: Students who are funded by state or federal programs are required to attend classes regularly and must attend 75% of the scheduled dates (unless otherwise specified in a specific program handbook) in order to receive a certificate of successful completion. All students will receive certificates of successful completion based on attendance. The instructor may assign make-up work if needed. Attendance policies vary with State Licensing Programs.
- CANCELED POSTPONED, COMBINED CLASSES: All classes advertised in our publications are dependent upon sufficient enrollments. While we make every effort to run all classes, when minimum enrollments are not reached, cancellation may occur. We will notify you at this time if your class is canceled and work with you to find another date or similar offering. Your tuition can be applied to another class or refunded in full.
- CERTIFICATES: Certificates of Successful Completion are awarded to students who attend 75% of their regularly scheduled class dates. Some restrictions may apply. Please ask for registration.
- CLASS INFORMATION: Any information you need about your class is available by calling 1-888-593-6238, and/or 793-8696. Call if you need information on where to go, where to park, in which room your class will be held or who your instructor will be.
- CLASS WITHDRAWAL: If it is necessary for you to withdraw from a class, please notify us in writing. Written notification must include student name, address, telephone number, and location of the course and start date of the course. Notifications of withdrawals can be sent to:
- BCCE at Madison-Oneida BOCES, P.O. Box 168, 4937 Spring Road, Verona, New York 13478-0168 OR
- BCCE at Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES, P.O. Box 70, Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, New York 13413
- ENROLLMENT: Students must be 18 years of age to enroll in and attend BOCES Adult Education classes, unless specifically stated. You are enrolled as soon as your registration and payment are received. We will contact you if there are any changes; otherwise, please plan on attending your class at the scheduled time, date and location listed in the course catalog*. A receipt will not be mailed unless requested. *Note: Course confirmation notices are sent by email.
- EMPLOYMENT: Although many of our programs and courses may open doors to employment opportunities, successful completion does not guarantee employment.
- GRADING: Upon request, students may receive a pass/fail grade from the instructor at the end of the course. Students who require more than a pass/fail grade are responsible for making necessary arrangements with the instructor on the first day of class. If there are any other grading requirements as mandated by the NYS Education Department, those will be described in literature passed out at the first class meeting. Student progress reports for funding agencies are provided mid-way through the course and at the end of the course.
- GRIEVANCES: For grievances, follow this procedure:
- The student should discuss the matter directly with the person involved.
- If the student is unable to resolve the concern, the student should present the problem to the instructor.
- If the Instructor is unable to resolve the issue, it may be presented to the Program Coordinator, in writing, signed and dated by both the student and the Instructor.
- If the Program Coordinator is unable to resolve the issue/grievance, he/she will submit the written summaries to the Director of Adult and Continuing Education, who may request a meeting before the Coordinator and Director make a final determination regarding the concern.
- If the concern isn’t resolved at Step 4, the student may submit a request in writing to meet with Sr. Administration to discuss the grievance and seek a resolution at this level.
- If no final resolution is obtained at the institutional level, the student may submit a written and signed complaint to:
Council on Occupational Education, 7840 Roswell Road, Building 300, Suite 325, Atlanta, GA 30350
Telephone: 770-396-3898 or 800-917-2081
The grievance must include the complainant’s mailing address. The Council will serve as an impartial party to try and help resolve the issue at hand.
- PAYMENT: Once payment is received you are officially registered in the class of your choice. Payment includes MasterCard, VISA, check, cash, money order, or company purchase order. Have your check, money order, or company purchase order made payable to Madison-Oneida BOCES. Payment must be received prior to the first class. Ed2Go classes only accept major credit cards.
