The BCCE Adult Practical Nursing Program prepares students to take the NCLEX-PN licensing exam for Practical Nurses. The curriculum includes: classroom theory, laboratory skills, and clinical experience. This course is a total of 1260 clock hours in length. A comprehensive, intensive two-day NCLEX-PN exam review is offered at the conclusion of the course.

**BOCES remains a drug free zone. Positive drug screens will exclude individuals from clinical practice. Healthcare facility guidelines prohibit those found under the influence from entering clinical sites and participating in clinical instruction.

Clinical days begin in week 12 of the program and continue to the end of the program. |
The program health documentation requirements are: a physical exam; immunizations and/or blood titers, and a negative tuberculosis test; flu vaccine and COVID vaccines are required per NYS Mandate.
Students are evaluated throughout the program. To successfully complete the program you must complete 1260 clock hours of instruction. A grade average of 75% must be maintained in each course and you must pass both the nursing skills and the clinical component to receive a certificate of completion.

In this course, students will be introduced to the field of phlebotomy in various healthcare settings. Students will learn phlebotomy skills, including but not limited to the following: specimen collection, specimen processing and handling, laboratory operations (safety, quality control, etc...), and anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system. Class is broken down into 112 classroom/lab hours and 88 hands-on externship hours. Upon successful completion of the program, learners will receive a completion certificate, AHA Healthcare Provider CPR, and will be required to sit for the National Phlebotomy Association Certification Exam (exam fee includeed in tuition). This course requires: current physical examination and immunizations, a high school diploma or GED, and purchase of textbook.

This course prepares you to work in a professional office or ambulatory setting in the delivery of quality healthcare service. The course includes an introduction to Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology and the functional roles of the Medical Assistant.
Additional topics include introductory medical office policy and procedures, basic vital sign measurements, medical asepsis, barrier precautions and infection control, assisting with examinations and diagnostic testing, plus office laboratory procedures and specimen handling. Course includes a 2-year American Heart Association CPR/AED certification.
The 63- hour clinical externship is required for class completion, and is scheduled after the 227- hour classroom portion and course examinations are completed.
