Public Relations Specialist - Part Time
Madison-Oneida BOCES in Verona, NY, is looking for a part-time Public Relations Specialist to work with school district leaders to support public messaging, internal communications and community relations needs. This position will report to the Director of Communications and work directly with superintendents and administrators in local school districts.
Our ideal candidates will be able to:
- Identify and tell stories to promote schools through strong writing and multimedia content about district news, events, programs, services, students, staff and facilities.
- Plan, write and edit content for websites, digital and print newsletters, social media and press releases.
- Create social media and web content, including photos, videos and graphics, related to academics, athletics, extracurriculars, community events and district initiatives.
- Coordinate with news media and district staff on coverage of district news.
- Additional duties as assigned.
What you bring to our team:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, public affairs or a closely related field
- Experience working in the communications field preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong command of grammar and the ability to submit clean copy on deadline
- Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to manage relationships, work in a team, work with senior leadership, and effectively communicate with stakeholders
- Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills, including the ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage multiple tight deadlines simultaneously

Salary Range: $55,000 - $60,000, pro-rated, depending on qualifications
Subject to Oneida County Civil Service requirements and exam.
Location: Madison-Oneida BOCES and component school districts
Term: 12-month (year-round), Part-time (60%)
