Planning and Writing Grants

Welcome to the world of grants development! You probably have a great project idea and you’re eager to find the money to make it happen but you’re not really sure how to get started.

The first step is to invest in some project planning. To secure competitive grant funding, it’s not enough to have a great idea; you must have a great project. To get started, you should be able to answer these questions:

What are the goals and objectives of the project?

Who will the project benefit? How many will benefit?

Why is the project necessary?

What happens if the project doesn’t get funded?

How much will it cost?

Why can’t the district/school/organization pay for it?

What exactly will the grant funds be used for?

Once you have developed clear, concise answers to these basic questions, you are ready to search for appropriate funders and move forward with finding a grant!
