What is Health and Wellness?

The Health and Wellness Committee of Madison Oneida BOCES consists of a diverse group of individuals selected to present ideas and information to build an overall healthier Madison-Oneida BOCES. We are not experts in the world of Health and Wellness.

Senior Coordinator for Adult & Continuing Ed
MOBOCES Health and Wellness Committee. I look forward to helping provide an educational tool for our staff as well as gaining more information to assist me and my family to live a healthier lifestyle. I enjoy cooking and am always looking for new and creative recipes that are both flavorful and provide high-quality nutritional value. We live in a region with an abundance of opportunities for outdoor exercising such as running, walking, biking, skiing, etc. The list is endless and the place to engage in these activities is at our doorstep.

Two years ago my youngest son, Gregory, was diagnosed with ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder) which we manage by eating a clean diet and exercising. We learn something new every day, therefore my goal in participating on this committee is to be able to share our lifestyle change with others and to continue growing in our healthy lifestyle.

Although I have always strived to maintain a healthy lifestyle, I tend to be overwhelmed by the time constraints of everyday responsibilities, and with that, I have historically pushed off my own day-to-day needs because it's of greater importance to me to do all I can for those around me. I am certain this is a very familiar story to many of you. At this juncture in my life, I realize I need to get serious about doing a better job with self-care, as, with age, it is becoming increasingly more difficult. I decided to become a Health & Wellness team member as a challenge to myself to work harder to accomplish better health and wellness in my life, as well as to share this journey and newfound resources with others who may also be struggling. Additionally, I will be working to contribute new ideas that will promote the health and well-being of not only the staff of Madison-Oneida BOCES but our students as well. "There is no one giant step that does it. It's a lot of little steps." - Peter Cohen
