School Meals Delivered

Cafeteria Staff Delivers Free Meals
Posted on 09/11/2020

School looks a little different right now and our cafeteria is no exception. But one thing remains the same – the price of a student meal.

The MOBOCES Food Service program continues to provide both breakfast and lunch to all full-day on-campus students at no charge.

Our cafeteria team arrives at 6:30am each day to prepare and bag grab-and-go breakfasts in advance of the first buses, which arrive around 7:30am. On their way into the building, students take a bag and can eat once they are in their classroom.

After the breakfast bags are distributed, Cook Manager Kathy Carney and team members Kate Campbell and Nancy Waldron head back into the kitchen to prep for lunch!

cafeteriaStaff members send down lists with student meal choices and team delivers the food to each classroom at lunchtime. The process helps protect students and staff by eliminating both movement around the building and larger groups in the cafeteria.

This is the third year MOBOCES has offered free meals to all full-day students through a federal Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) grant. The grant is based on socio-economic data of enrolled students.

“We already served many families who were struggling financially, and COVID-19 has increased needs throughout our communities,” Food Service Manager Hollie Ackerman said. “This is one way we can continue to support our students, even with additional rules and safety measures in place.”
